WALcome: Women of Arts and Letters Coming Together
WALcome is an informal organization of women faculty in the College of Arts and Letters founded in 2009 under the auspices of the Advisory Committee on Women in Arts and Letters.
WALcome will maintain a list of both male and female faculty in the College of Arts and Letters who are willing to serve as informal (cross-departmental) mentors to graduate students and faculty of all ranks and both genders. To access the mentor list, click here. To volunteer to serve as a WALcome mentor, request to have your name added to the list here.
WALcome is also currently collecting suggestions on programs to implement over the next several semesters. Ideas suggested so far include:
- Regular gatherings several times during the semester in Decio Commons. For faculty and graduate students.
- Socials held once near the start of each fall and spring semester to welcome and introduce new faculty, celebrate current faculty achievements, and network with women faculty from across the College of Arts and Letters.
- Brown bag lunches once or twice a semester to be organized around topics of concern to faculty and advanced graduate students, such as “Navigating the First Year of Professorship,” “Getting Tenured at Notre Dame,” and “Family Services at the University of Notre Dame.” A panel of faculty and/or staff experts could make brief presentations on the topic, with ample time to ask questions.
We would love to hear from you if you have any ideas or suggestions for future programming or initiatives; please click on the “Contact” or “Feedback” links found throughout this website, or drop a note in the suggestion box at any of our upcoming events.
